Know WordPress Multisite

Know WordPress Multisite
WordPress is a CMS that features MultiSite. Multisite allows you to create multiple web and multiple hosts with just one CMS installation of WordPress. This new Multisite feature was introduced in Wordrpess 3.0. This feature was previously called WordPress Multi-User (MU). But in version 3.4 is already a plugin that can be directly installed on WordPress.

Examples of multisite implementations such as Google's blogger service, where each member who signed up will get a subdomain that will lead directly to the member's blog. Or in Indonesia we know kompasiana website and Vivalog, where every member who registers will have its own directory or subdomain.

Seeing such a multisite feature would you be interested to be applied to your own website. Feel like having a mall website that every member will bring traffic for you. And indeed WordPress plugins for multisite can be obtained for free.

However, before you apply this multisite feature. Also consider this, Does your website really need it?
Once again to be able to accommodate the members who sign up to your site required a large hosting space. If you are currently still using the Shared Hosting service is very risky. Because each member will be very likely to upload image files or other media. At least you should have a VPS service that has enough space.

Examples of Proper Use
Should you use it? Prepare adequate infrastructure for your multisite to run smoothly. Examples of websites that may need to use this feature are:
School website / college. The University website may be very necessary to utilize the WordPress Multisite feature. Because they have a large amount of content, often separated into several sub - sections (colleges, majors, etc.). So every department on campus has its own subdomain to present its information.
Government website. Government agencies must have many divisions in their organizational structure. Multisite WordPress features may need to be used if the agency has a lot of information that must be conveyed to the public and also for internal and external needs.
Large business website. See nice stores and berniaga.com. They have subdomains as well as subdirectories for each of their members. And every member has a need to upload their merchandise, photos, so it's no wonder that such sites need multisite features.
Well, that's some points of consideration. The websites that I mentioned above do not use WordPress as CMSnya. But the concept of magnitude is just the same as we install a multisite plugin on our WordPress.

So what's the difference when we've implemented multisite features on our WordPress? Here are the different points:

Super Administrator. In ordinary WordPress, "administrator" has the highest permissions on the site. WordPress Multisite still has administrator roles for each site, but there is a higher type of account that is "super administrator." Super administrators have access to every site on the network to manage everything on each member site.
Dashboard Network Admin. In addition to the dashboard for each individual site on the WordPress Multisite network, there is another dashboard that can manage the settings on the entire network of admin basics. Only Super administrators can access this dashboard.
Plugins and Themes. Another important difference between ordinary WordPress and WordPress Multisite is how plugins and themes are managed. In WordPress Multisite, plugins and themes installed by the Super User, will be available on every site in the network.
