| How To Set Up Dropbox As A Wordpress CDN |
Using content delivery network for your WordPress blog, will
significantly reduce loading load and improve overall blog performance.
However, the CDN service is paid and most of the services are quite expensive.
Fortunately, there is an easy way to take advantage of professional CDN
services without paying any money at all!
There is an alternative option that is Dropbox, Dropbox is
one of the most popular cloud storage services, but you can use it for more
than just saving your files. In this post, I will tell you how to convert
Dropbox to content delivery network for your blog. This will improve your
website performance, give you more hard disk space, and save a lot of money.
This tutorial is quite simple and I am sure for you novice blogger will be able
to do this.
THERE ARE TWO WAYS TO USE DROPBOX AS CDN.
I. USING PLUGIN WP SUPER CACHE
1. Download the WP Super Cache plugin.
2. Download the wp -includes and wp -content folder of your
blog.
3. Dropbox account list. Create a new folder in the Dropbox
public folder. For this tutorial, I will use a folder named CDN.
4. Open your domain name control panel and create a new
sub-domain (eg cdn.namadomainanda.com)
5. Open your website's file manager, and locate and open the
folder named CDN. When you are in it, create a file named htaccess and paste
the following code in it.
Redirect 301 / http://dl.dropbox.com/u/ID/cdn/
Replace "ID" with Dropbox your ID profile
6. Go to the WP Super Cache plugin settings page and select
the tab labeled CDN. Check the check box in front of Enable CDN and type in the
name of the sub-domain you created earlier.
7. Click Save and test your new content delivery network
II. USING PLUGIN DROPBOX CDN
This plugin still lacks some features, but it already gives
you what you need right now for the ability to use Dropbox as a CDN for your
blog. Follow these steps to do this:
1. Download, install and activate plugin from Dropbox CDNPlugin
Sign in with your Dropbox account and create a new folder in
the root of your cloud storage directory. Name does not matter, I will use CDN.
3. Open your website's file manager and download the entire
wp -content directory. Upload to CDN folder in your Dropbox account.
4. Open your Dropbox directory and copy the URL from the
folder you created in Step 2.
5. Open the Dropbox CDN plugin settings and paste the URL
there.
Both of these methods are tested and work perfectly. When
you have completed the steps above, your blog static files will now be hosted
and loaded through your Dropbox account. If you ever change anything on files
located on wp -content and wp -includes, you'll have to re-upload them to your
Dropbox account.
Note:
This method is not difficult and many bloggers use it to
speed up their websites. However, keep in mind that you have a daily limit on
your Dropbox bandwidth, so this method will not work perfectly if your blog is
visited by thousands of users
